Other : Named after the Villa church which was located in the Aston area. In 1874 the club already played on a ground called Aston Lower Grounds which would be renamed to Villa Park in 1900. The club moved away from the ground but in 1897 they returned when the new stadium was opened. The stadium was built for 18000 people but as the club became more popular the stadium was soon big enough to hold 40.000. In 1946 the record attendance would be 76.588.
