 Marseille-Paris: the French 'Classique' 1-1

This French 'Classique' has been, unlike most other games between PSG and OM, quiet a nice game with very few fouls.
Marseille, who lost it's last 8 games against PSG in the Championship, the League Cup and the Cup (humiliation for the fans!), finally stopped the PSG 'curse' but is still without a win against their rivals in the last 3 years.

The team is still running for a Champions League qualification place. In Paris, nothing more is to be expected from this very dark season, so a win against the arch-rival was very important to the fans.

The game started very balanced, both teams trying to attack. Marseille pressed quite strong at the beginning of the match, but the Parisian tactical maturity blocked them, so the first half ended without goals.

At the beginning of the 2nd half, the young Japanese Nakata, expected as a star-to-become (or, maybe, just a good marketing investment) scored an own-goal to give Paris the lead. During the 5 following minutes, Marseille seemed to be in shock and had to put up with the Parisian attacks.

Then the players reacted and started to control the game. Paris just waited and played on the counter attack. In the end the Marseille pressure cost Paris a logical equalizer by Battles. This goal brightened up the match as Paris suddenly started to play offensively again. They put the Marseille defense under pressure during the last 10 minutes of the game but couldn't score a 2nd goal. They can blame themselves as they missed some good goal opportunities. But we also have to say that goalkeeper Barthez played a great match.

So the game ended with this deserved 1-1, which makes PSG fans not too happy and OM fans not too disappointed.
